Leading up to the release of their fifth album LM5, U.K. pop superstars Little Mix grace the cover of the LGBT magazine Attitude for their December issue.

The group's four members — Jade Thirlwall, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Perrie Edwards — each have an individual cover for the issue, which will be out a week before LM5 drops.

""To be recognised as LGBT+ allies, that’s amazing. Obviously, we have a massive gay fan base and so to be given that award is just… [smiles] The majority of our friends, especially in London, are LGBT+,” Jade Thirlwall tells Attitude in an interview. “I didn’t want to be that person who was like, ‘I love going to gay bars and I have a gay friend.’ I actually wanted to back that up as an ally.”

"I wanted to educate myself and learn how to combat homophobia," she adds, "Or know what to say when our LGBT+ fans message or send tweets: 'I don’t know what to do, I don’t know how to come out to my parents,'" Thirwall continues, "We have so many LGBT+ fans. If we’re going to benefit from them as a fan base, the least we can do is give them something back. It’s really important to us."

Little Mix’s advocacy for the LGBTQ community has been noted by Attitude in the past; they were honored with the "Honourary Gay" award last month. Between the 2015 single “Secret Love Song,” which they decreed as an ode for the LGBTQ community, and the music video for the Cheat Codes collaboration "Only You" features a supernatural queer love story, their music makes their allyship very clear.

But their work extends past their music; Thirlwall notably serves as the ambassador to the British LGBT organization Stonewall, and marched with the organization for Manchester Pride in August.
