Willam Parodies Britney Spears, Rihanna & Dolly Parton on New Comedy Album: Listen

Willam Belli

As many of the illustrious alumni of RuPaul’s Drag Race strive to achieve success after appearing on the show, season 4 contestant Willam Belli has served as one of the road maps on how to get it. From her accomplishments as a musician with multiple No. 1 comedy albums, to her recent appearance in the blockbuster hit A Star Is Born, Willam is a walking example of what success after Drag Race looks like.

That spirit of success is present on her brand-new comedy album Now That’s What I Call Drag Music, Vol. 1. The album features Willam’s hilarious brand of parodies, ranging from a new take on a Rihanna song to a hilarious parody of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” centered around famed serial killer Aileen Wuornos (properly titled “Aileen”).

Willam tells Billboard that the album was originally inspired by attending a gay cruise where a number of the queens onboard performed to some of her music. “After the show I talked to them, they said ‘Boy Is a Bottom’ and ‘Love You Like a Big Schlong’ and one other I forget were their moneymaker songs that people always tipped them lovely for,” she says. “So I wanted this album to be along the same lines.”

On one track, Willam goes after fellow Drag Race contestant Derrick Barry in a parody of Britney Spears’ “...Baby One More Time” called “Derrick.” The crux of the song comes from the infamous Billboard roundtable interview where Barry incorrectly stated that people died during the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, just before Willam corrected her and gave a history lesson on the moment.
