Charli XCX & Troye Sivan, "1999"

Troye Sivan and Charli XCX want you to party like it’s, oh, you know.

Fresh off performing "1999" live at Radio City Music Hall, the duo has debuted a nostalgic video for their collaborative jam today (Oct. 11), and it plays out like a Y2K fantasy of the most epic proportions.

The Ryan Staake and Charli XCX-directed video jam-packs just about every iconic ‘90s throwback into three-and-a-half minutes. Charli leans in, cosplaying as Left Eye-circa-“Waterfalls,” all five of the Spice Girls, and…Steve Jobs when he debuted the iMac. For good measure, she recreates the legendary rose petal scene from American Beauty.

Sivan doesn’t slouch on the millennial references either, rocking Justin Timberlake’s noodly locks and giving us Slim Shady realness.

They even recreate Jack and Rose from Titanic, Neo and Trinity, and Sim versions of themselves. A few re-watches are required to spot all of the classic '90s iconography, but they're really committed to reliving the dial-up aesthetic.
