On Bisexual Visibility Day (Sept. 23), fans, artists and everyone in between came together to celebrate the beauty and power that comes with identifying as bisexual. One of the singers weighed in on Sunday was R&B star Kehlani, who took a moment on Twitter to acknowledge and celebrate her fans who were celebrating their bisexuality.

She started off by relating to her bi fans, saying that to her, sexuality was always more complicated than straight or gay. “Sexuality has never seemed black & white, it’s a spectrum, often times finding what u feel you most identify with takes patience and in the case of our society, a lot of confidence,” she wrote. “Happy bi-visibility day, i hope you feel seen today and everyday.”

The “Honey” singer also took a moment to field a question from one of her supporters about the importance of using a label, such as bisexual, queer or gay. While some fans responded saying labels were unimportant altogether, Kehlani took a more nuanced approach. “I think it’s personal preference,” she said. “Sometimes people feel confined in a label, others feel defined and free. It’s all up to you.”

Kehlani can certainly understand the experience of her bi fans — the singer said earlier this year that she identifies as queer. “Not bi, not straight,” she clarified in a now-deleted tweet. “I’m attracted to women, men, REALLY attracted to queer men, non binary people, intersex people, trans people.”
