Nicki Minaj is seen walking in midtown on Sept. 6, 2018 in New York City.

On the most recent episode of her Beats 1 radio show Queen Radio, Nicki Minaj put her queer allyship into action. The star was speaking to artist and trans activist Ts Madison on the program about relationships. Before launching into a new line of questioning, one of Minaj’s co-hosts and managers Jean Nelson made a joke while Madison was singing, saying, “You may have to cut his mic off.”

Minaj almost immediately jumped back into the conversation, quickly correcting Nelson’s mislabeling. “Excuse me, that’s a woman,” Minaj said. “That’s a queen.” Madison thanked Minaj and quickly informed Nelson that she is, in fact, a transgender woman. But the rapper took the opportunity to poke fun at her co-host, saying “Cut his mic off for good! You don’t fucking know who Ts Madison is, Jean? You better Google her!”

Nelson played off the misstep, and added that he’s “got love for all communities, transgender, everything.” Madison continued to spout off about the way that she became a viral internet sensation, with Minaj hyping her up the whole time. “You better run your resumé,” Minaj proclaimed, before adding “You know, don’t even run your resumé, Maddie.”

Madison has long been a fan of Minaj’s, and expressed her gratitude to the rap star for having her on the show and supporting her. “Thank you Queen,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “It was lit!”

Fans also flooded social media praising the episode and expressing thanks to Minaj for correcting Nelson when he misgendered Madison. “Now that’s how you handle 2 Queens in the room. Open mindedness,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “Nicki immediately jumped to the defense of TS Madison.”
