Congrats on your fifth No. 1 on the Dance Club Songs chart. How does it feel to top the charts again?
It's hard to believe it's the fifth one. I remember when I got my start with Junior Vasquez, and we began making records together. I never thought that I would ever be on the charts, so to this day, it feels nuts! We work so hard on our music. It's who we are, and it's tough at times to be an indie artist, but when you get a victory like this, it makes the struggle worth every minute.
Your musical partnership with Tony Moran has led to a lot of affirming, positive club anthems. What brings the two of you back together so often?
I feel so blessed. There isn't a word to describe how it feels when you're working with Tony -- I mean, he's a legend. Even to this day, every time we are in the studio together, I still pinch myself because there's a part of me that doesn't believe its real. We work really well together. He gets me and my weird voice.
I'd been in front of so many A&R people and they all would say the same thing: "we love your voice and sound but, we just don't know what to do with you.” Well Tony knew, and we are just getting started. The records that we've done have come to fruition in such an effortless way. It's like they were meant to happen.
We are putting the finishing touches on our album, it's practically complete. We don't have a title yet, but our next single together is called "Now Or Never.” I don't think I've ever been so excited about a musical project as I am this one. I feel like I'm making the album of my life.
You’ve talked about wanting to make purposefully joyful, loving music in past interviews. Why is that important for you?
Honestly, look at the state of the world: it's a mess. But even in our darkest times, people still want to be entertained. They want to escape, even if it's just for a little while, So why not provide a vehicle that will also put a smile on their face?
