Sam Smith performs at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Jan. 30, 2018.

Sam Smith is currently on the road for his The Thrill of It All Tour, but the singer took a pit stop during his stay in Orlando, Fla. on Thursday (July 21) to visit the Pulse nightclub memorial.

A vocal advocate for queer activism, Smith paid tribute to the lives of those 49 people killed at the gay venue in June 2016, documenting his emotional visit via Instagram.

“So deeply emotional & heartbreaking,” Smith wrote. “However, proof that there is more love in this world than hate. To all the families and friends of the victims, your loved ones will never be forgotten xx If any of you come to Orlando it’s such an important place to go to and pay your respects. Sending my love to all of you.”

Smith will perform tonight (July 13) at the Amalie Arena in Tampa.
