Epiphany Mattel Talks Working With Latrice Royale & Ryan Murphy's New Show 'Pose': Watch

Transgender hip-hop artist Epiphany Mattel caught up with Billboard Pride editor Patrick Crowley at RuPaul’s DragCon over the weekend to discuss her music, her recent collaboration with a RuPaul’s Drag Race alum and to weigh in on Ryan Murphy’s new television show Pose.

Mattel, who is managed by Drag Race queen Latrice Royale, wrote Royale’s latest song “Excuse the Beauty,” which she explains was inspired by the ballroom/vogue scene, adding, “I think everybody is gonna really love it.”

While on the subject of ball culture, the “Fix Yo Face” rapper says that she is very excited about Ryan Murphy's upcoming FX show Pose and that trans women are finally getting recognition.

“I am so excited to see that,” she says, “mainly because the majority of the cast is trans women so finally I feel like, outside of Laverne [Cox], who’s done a marvelous job, and Ts Madison and Amiyah Scott, that we’re starting to get more recognition and our voices are starting to be heard, which is exactly what I try to do with my music, also.”
