Throughout the competition on this season of American Idol, drag queen Ada Vox has been able to consistently impress the judges with her raw vocal talent and fabulous attitude. But on Monday night’s episode, it turns out that fans didn’t show up for her.

The rules of Monday’s episode were simple — the six contestants who received the most votes from fans were guaranteed spots in the Top 10, leaving the judges to choose four of the remaining eight contestants to move on in the competition. Vox did not receive enough votes to be guaranteed a spot, and instead had to wait for the judges to decide on whether or not she could stay.

The queen took to the stage to perform her own rendition of Jennifer Holliday’s Dreamgirls power ballad, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” Wearing her finest jeweled gown, Vox tapped into her uninhibited emotions to offer up a spectacular rendition of the song, even taking a brief pause at the song’s end to gather herself.

Lucky for Ada, the judges were so impressed with her performance, that they decided to offer her a spot in the Top 10 right then instead of waiting until the end of the show. “I think we do know talent when we see it,” judge Katy Perry said. “So I think we would like to make an executive decision right now that, Ada, you get that seat, baby.”

Vox later took to Twitter to express her gratitude for making it to the Top 10, while also reminding her followers that they have a job to do. “Please, please, please make sure you app vote next time if you want to keep me in the competition,” she said. “This was too close for comfort!”

Watch Vox continue in the competition on the next episode of American Idol, Sunday, April 29 at 8 pm ET on ABC.
