Synth-pop darlings Years & Years have debuted the visual for “Sanctify,” the first single from their upcoming album. The video takes place in Palo Santo, an imaginary society of androids who capture humans for the purpose of entertainment.

“I wanted to write a song that was kind of inspired from some experiences I've had with guys who identify straight but I've had something a bit more than just a friendship with them,” frontman Olly Alexander explained to Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1. He added that “it spoke a bit to my own coming out journey as a gay guy.”

As far as the music, Alexander was inspired by the sounds of pop music at in the early '00s, describing it as, “Britney era 'Slave 4 U' meets like Timbaland or Neptunes, just because that's my favorite kind of stuff to listen to.”
