For Gay Pride Month, Billboard asked numerous pop culture luminaries to write 'love letters' to the LGBTQ community. Below, Antigone Rising's Kristen Ellis-Henderson -- an outspoken member of the LGBTQ community -- shares hers. Read more Pride Month love letters here.

I'm so proud of us. And so grateful that I get to be a part of us. We are some of the smartest, funniest, most intelligent, sensitive and frankly, good looking people I've ever met.

When I was too scared to admit who I was, you allowed me to camouflage amongst you in the West Village. And when I started an all female rock band because I thought that was the safest place for a lesbian in her twenties to hide, you all came to my shows…a lot of them, actually. And you cheered and clapped and bought my band’s CDs and made me feel like I belonged.

You helped me get braver, brave enough to come out. And together, as a community, we realized we deserved more than just "tolerance," but EQUALITY!

So we fought for it together, all across the country. At Pride Festivals in New York, Kentucky, Nashville, Atlanta, Illinois and so so many other places. We sang together until we were hoarse. We marched until we were bedraggled. We hugged and raised glasses of champagne celebrating our hard fought victories. And in the past year we’ve clung together even tighter through horrifying tragedies and horrifying bathroom bills and extremely horrifying elections.

We’ve loved each other for exactly who we are, and you’re the reason I finally love myself enough to never want to trade being a fierce lesbian mother and wife in an all female rock band for anything in the world.

What a lucky break that I get to be part of such an amazing community. I could not be prouder to be your sister.
