There was a drag queen, Kizha Carr, that performed my song once as a surprise to me. I know for fact that she doesn't know how much that truly meant to me. It's nice to have people tell me that my song is being played at the gym or Forever 21, but for someone to take time to learn the lyrics and the riffs and runs and then add it to their already packed show means so much more. I could have watched her twirl to “Basically Over You (B.O.Y)” for hours – you could see the fire, giving a Beyoncé-caliber performance. I was exhausted just watching it! It made me want to work even harder to make more music like that.

When you see someone actually appreciate your work, it's a little part of you that they appreciate as well. That’s just part of why I love the LGBTQ community so much -- their passion and eagerness to express themselves. These celebrations continue to unite us every day.
