La La Land director Damien Chazelle joined Twitter on Wednesday (Aug. 16) specifically to slam President Donald Trump for, as he put it, "openly endorsing Nazism and white supremacy."

The tweets are in response to Trump's speech on Tuesday blaming "both sides" -- the extremist, racist protestors on the right and what Trump coined the "alt-left" -- for the weekend's deadly violences in Charlottesville, Virgina.

"We're living a historic moment. Things don't often come this clear-cut. Anyone in a position of power who stays silent is complicit," wrote the Academy Award-winning director. "I hold out hope. That the GOP will come to its senses and call for impeachment."
