Listen to Glassnote Upstart Tor Miller's #TBT Mixtape
Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard's series that showcases artists' very own throwback-themed playlists exclusive to Billboard's Spotify account. The curated set features the artists' favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.
This week's spin comes from Tor Miller. The New York singer-songwriter released his sophomore LP, Surviving the Suburbs, last month via Glassnote Records. The album, a self-reflection on the young star's coming of age, showcased a more robust sound compared to his debut LP, American English, with the addition of a live backing band pushing his sound into Americana territory, or as Miller explains: "If Elton John made a Bruce Springsteen record."
Currently in the midst of a fall headlining tour in support of the record, Miller looks back to his own musical origins with this week's #TBT Mixtape.
"When creating this playlist, I thought back on the songs in my life I found myself singing the most; whether it be along with the radio in the car on a road trip, something my mom turned me on to from her past, in my parents' basement with my friends, or alone in the shower," Miller explains. "I’d say my musical taste as a child was eclectic and may be the reason my own writing spans so many musical genres. Whatever it all means, these songs helped shape me and are still constantly floating around in my head and always give me that warm nostalgic feeling if I ever hear them in passing. I hope you enjoy."
