Sufjan Stevens, St. Vincent & Moses Sumney Deliver Angelic Harmonies During 'Mystery Of Love' Oscars Performance

Last month, Sufjan Stevens' "Mystery of Love" -- one of the three songs Stevens' contributed to the soundtrack for Call Me By Your Name -- cracked the Hot Rock Songs chart. Tonight, as he performed the Best Original Song nominated track at the Oscars, the song felt even more pulsating; Stevens enlisted an all-star team of musicians like St. Vincent, Chris ThileMoses Sumney multi-instrumentalist Casey Foubert, and drummer James McAlister to join him.

After a warm introduction from transgender Chilean actress Daniela Vega, who said, “I want to invite you to open your heart and your feelings…to feel the reality, to feel love, the group fittingly rose up to the stage on an elevated platform on which they stood in a neat line -- all wearing black, save for Stevens' colorful navy and pink striped suit with dragons printed on it and sequined cuffs. The performance, though brief, offered angelic and airy harmonies with St. Vincent and Sumney on supporting vocals, while ?Thile plucked away on ukulele.
