Alvin and the Chipmunks Talk Snapchat, Snacks & Science Kits While Touring

Your toddler’s favorite fall tour? Most likely Alvin & The Chipmunks, currently on a North American run that wraps Dec. 5, days before new film The Road Chip opens. The interactive theater tour, titled Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Musical, features Alvin, Simon and Theodore singing hits by Carly Rae Jepsen, fun, Owl City, Icona Pop, Elvis Presley and others, along with live action costumes designed by Tony Award-winning designer Michael Curry of The Lion King. The tour will hit 48 cities, which is especially grueling by chipmunk standards (in the wild, the rodents' average lifespan can be as little as three years). So how do the little guys keep themselves in fighting shape on the road? We asked, and they answered  -- over email via their publicist (apparently the little guys are too busy for phoners).

Preshow Rituals
Alvin: “I steal the key from the stage manager and lock Simon and Theodore in their dressing rooms.”
Simon: “I always calculate the angle of entry to the stage with my slide rule. It’s very important to know the measurements because each stage is different and the change needs to be accounted for in order to rock freely.”
Theodore: “Right before we go on stage I grab a handful of cheese-puffs.  No one likes to get hungry during the show!”

Staying Fit on the Road
Alvin: “I like to get my cardio in by running around the theater, hiding behind the scenery, and jumping out to scare the crew.”

Tour-Bus Downtime
Alvin: “I like to catch-up on my reality TV — and SNAPCHAT!”

On Our Tour Rider:
Simon: “One junior deluxe science kit, three fully-charged iPads loaded with the latest in vocal preparation apps, and assorted classic literature books.”
Theodore: “Cheese-puffs! They’re so wonderful … and soft and crunchy. Do you guys have any here that I could have? Please?”
Alvin: “Have your people call our people and they can send you our rider.”

Hardest Partier:
Theodore:  “Party? Do you mean pizza party?”
Simon: “Last night Alvin started a food fight in the ballroom of the hotel.
Alvin: “I did not start that! It was an accident…”

Who gets the most attention from the ladies?
Alvin: “I do!”
Simon: “Excuse me? That would certainly be me.”
Theodore: “The ladies always love the drummer most!”
