A scene from the trailer for Bill & Ted Face the Music.

Bill and Ted grapple with some seriously existential questions about the stability of ultrahigh-energy particles in the first official trailer the anticipated threequel Bill & Ted Face the Music, which dropped on Tuesday morning (June 9).

Okay, kidding. The truth is Theodore "Ted" Logan (Keanu Reeves) and best bud forever William "Bill" S. Preston Esq. (Alex Winter) kind of don't rock that hard anymore and they're super bummed.

In the Dean Parisot-directed film due out on Aug. 21, the now middle age pals must confront the fact that their band, Wyld Stallyns, just don't draw the crowd they used to. So, they set out on an adventure to find a song that will bring the universe back in harmony while fulfilling their musical destiny. And, you know, rocking hard.

So, they tap their daughters (Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine), plus a whole mess of new historical figures and legends to find a track that will set things right. Along the way they get help from a cast that includes: Kid Cudi, Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Jillian Bell, Holland Taylor, Beck Bennett, William Sadler, Hal Landon Jr. and Amy Stoch.

In the clip, a visitor from the future reminds them that they played a show for the entire world 25 years ago and that their most recent gig was in Barstow to 40 people, most of whom were there for cheap taco not. Most un-excellent. There is, however, hope for uniting the world. Couldn't they just go to the future and steal the song from themselves? Can you steal from yourself? Whoa.
