Idris Elba Says He Wants to Collaborate With 'Cats' Co-Star Taylor Swift
Idris Elba had nothing but kind words for his Cats co-star and Golden Globes co-presenter Taylor Swift on Sunday night (Jan. 6). Shortly after he took the stage at the awards show with Swift, Elba spoke to Access' Scott Evans and explained that he's known the singer for "a couple of years" and that their upcoming roles in the big-screen remake of Cats might surprise people.
"We're cool, you know? She's a good girl, she's a great artist," Elba said. "She's got a really good heart and she works hard. I'm so excited to work with her in this film. Not only is she a musician but she's an actress as well...she's got chops. She holds her own, no doubt. It comes natural to her."
Elba, who is slated to DJ at this year's Coachella, even teased that he might try to pull off the ultimate cross-over with the singer. "This year's been amazing, because I get to play and make music a lot more and I'm hoping that...I might get Taylor and I to do a song. I mean, that would be great," he said.
Swift, Elba, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Jason Derulo, Rebel Wilson and Ian McKellen are slated to hit the big screen on Dec. 20 in the movie version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical. Swift will reportedly play the role of flirty female cat Bombalurina, who sings the song "Macavity: The Mystery Cat,", while Elba is slated to play Macavity, a master criminal. Swift's previous on-screen appearances include playing Audrey in the 2012 animated movie The Lorax and a co-starring role in 2014's The Giver.
