Steve Carell and Kelly Clarkson Link Up at the Golden Globes for Ultimate '40-Year Old Virgin' Reference

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson arrives for the 75th Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 7, 2018, in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The Golden Globes created many memorable moments  last night (Jan. 7) . Host Seth Meyers brought the house down with culturally and politically charged jokes, while multimedia legend Oprah Winfrey's acceptance speech upon receiving the Cecille B. DeMille Award was powerful enough that many are now ticketing her for the Oval Office.

Amidst these big moments, however, one lesser-seen moment from the night might stand out as the crown jewel of hilarity: this selfie of Kelly Clarkson and Steve Carell, an unspoken callback to a classic 40-Year-Old Virgin scene.

Carell posted the picture of the two this morning after the event, simply captioned, "Finally." Sure enough, the pic drove Twitter into a frenzy, for making reality of the famous moment in the comedy in which Carell blurted out Kelly Clarkson's name in pain during a vicious chest-waxing.

Since then, a run-in between the two has eluded the masses, and Clarkson and Carell have never been able to discuss the scene. Now, 12 years later, those dreams were realized, for Clarkson and for pop culture.

Clarkson voiced her joy over the meetup via Twitter, saying, "One of my favorite moments of my life! I love you and your lovely wife!" In an interview with Today back in November, the singer said that the two had yet to actually meet, and that she wanted to know what turning her name into an expression of pain could have possibly meant.
