Singer-turned-actress Zendaya is set to return to the big screen in the film adaption of Karin Tanabe's book The Gilded Years, now to be titled A White Lie. The book tells the real-life story of Anita Hemmings, the first African-American woman to graduate from Vassar College, via psychological thriller.

In line with the movie's title, Hemmings -- a light-skinned woman who was the descendant of slaves -- was able to graduate from Vassar by passing as white. There will also be a love story involved in the film, as Hemmings found romance with a Harvard student.

Zendaya will also produce A White Lie, alongside actress Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter. Monica Beletsky, who also produced television series Fargo and Parenthood, will write the script.

Zendaya can also be seen in The Greatest Showman, co-starring with Hugh Jackman, which premieres on Dec. 20. The actress will also reprise her former role in the Spiderman sequel opposite Tom Holland.
