Jared Leto Stars in 'Blade Runner' Short Film 'Nexus:2036'
Here, the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman introduces sinister character Niander Wallace.
The iconic '80s neo noir Blade Runner makes its return Oct. 6 with Denis Villeneuve's sequel Blade Runner 2049, but in the meatime Warner Bros. is amping up fans with three short films offering fans a glimpse into what life after the film’s 2019 has been like. Each are directed by filmmakers selected by Villeneuve and the first stars Jared Leto, introducing his sinister character Niander Wallace.
The short, titled Nexus: 2036, was directed by Ridley Scott’s son Luke Scot and explains how the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman' character created replicants called "Nexus 9" to try to repeal a replicant ban placed in 2023. It retains a similar feel to the original, with a spine-chilling ending.
Ryan Gosling stars in Blade Runner 2049 as a blade runner called Officer K who heads on a quest to find Harrison Ford’s character, Rick Deckard, after he goes missing for 30 years.
