Watch Nicki Minaj and Jesse Williams Transform into Magical Fairies in H&M's Festive Holiday Campaign Film: Exclusive
The Swedish fast-fashion retailer has a steady history of working with musicians including Lady Gaga, Chance the Rapper, Future, and most recently The Weeknd on two capsule collections.
For her latest visual, star rapper Nicki Minaj and actor-activist Jesse Williams (who plays her husband) transform into magical fairies -- while in a snow-covered house during the heart of Winter, filmed on-location in Scotland.
This all makes sense, considering the duo are part of H&M's festive holiday campaign -- which tells the tale of a parallel universe, where the couple's heroic young daughter embarks on a mission to track down the evil brother of Santa Claus, who stole Christmas presents from children across the globe.
As the unnamed young daughter unsuccessfully tries to recruit help from a gang of fairies clad in leather jackets and driving motorcycles, she eventually arrives at a magical forest perched on top of a skyscraper to seek counsel from Minaj's second character, the "Wisest Thingy."
With no success her quest for the location of Santa's evil brother, played by John Turturro (The Big Lebowski, Transformers: Dark of the Moon), the young heroine finds the "Fastest Fairy" in the world, also played by Williams. She eventually discovers the dark hidden cave where Turturro has been hiding out, and gives him a good scolding, making him swear never to steal Christmas presents ever again.
Filmed by photographer Tim Walker and director Johan Renck, the three-minute video and supporting campaign imagery sees all actors sporting pieces from the brand's latest collection, including plenty of cozy knitwear, sparkly party dresses, and dapper menswear suits -- all of which are now available in stores and online.
Williams, who is known for his portrayal of Dr. Jackson Avery on ABC's hit drama Grey's Anatomy, found inspiration for the role in his personal life. “I’m a parent of a brilliant, imaginative daughter and story time is one of our favorite things! I make sure we tell stories with empowered female roles, and that’s what attracted me to this H&M campaign," he tells Billboard.
