Very few people have had the year Rihanna has had. The Bajan beauty shattered the walls of the beauty industry -- seriously, brands were "shook" -- with the release of Fenty Beauty, her meticulously crafted makeup line that celebrated all shades of beauty in a diverse 40-shade foundation collection.

For the December issue of InStyle, Rihanna discussed her game-changing beauty line and her earliest makeup memories growing up in Barbados.

Rih's knack for striking, polished makeup looks stemmed from her days as a young pageant participant, and observing her mother, who was a former makeup artist. "When I was a teen back in Barbados, I was in a pageant, and my mom did my makeup for it. I will never forget the feeling I had after seeing how even my skin looked when she put foundation on my face," she told InStyle. "And I remember my brother being so upset. He was like, “You’re gonna put that on every day?” I loved it. It’s like Photoshop. I like my makeup to look like skin -- really good skin."

On Sept. 1, Rihanna unveiled the teaser video for Fenty Beauty, and called upon an all-star cast of fashion's It Models of all colors and sizes, including Duckie Thot, Slick Woods, Paloma Elsesser, Camila Costa and more, to showcase the wide-ranging shades for the Pro Filt'r foundation -- FB's inaugural product. She took a major leap towards inclusivity in the beauty industry and reaped the benefits, as products flew off shelves and rave reviews poured in, which ultimately earned the singer a whopping $72 million in earned media value.

"I wanted to do a line for years, but it needed to be credible, something that industry pros and girls around the world would respect," she says. If Fenty Beauty's success is any indication, Rih has already notched that feat -- Fenty Beauty tutorials have gone viral -- and will be looking to replicate her success with the recently released Galaxy holiday collection.
