Will Kylie Jenner Be Able to Use Kylie Cosmetics While Pregnant?
Friday (Sep. 23) afternoon, news broke that Kylie Jenner, the 20-year-old influencer and entrepreneur, is allegedly pregnant with rapper Travis Scott's baby, a girl, due in February. Of course, the social media sensation is known for her insanely popular cosmetics line, Kylie Cosmetics, which as of August had sold $420 million in the past 18 months. But will Kylie be able to use her own namesake products while pregnant? We sent Dr. Jacques Moritz, who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology at Weill Cornell in New York City, photos of few of her products to inspect, asking him to let us know if there are any harmful or potentially harmful ingredients for pregnant women in her collection.
"Both the Bronze Eyeshadow Palette and the Ultra Glow Loose Powder Highlighter (from her "Vacation" collection) have aluminum, which I'd avoid," Dr. Moritz said. "The powder also includes Aluminum Chloride Hexahydrate, which is a category C and should be avoided." As for her famous lip kits, Dr. Moritz says that from what he sees on the packaging, the product is "generally safe," though, like all chemicals and dye, "should be limited to as needed."
Another sticking point is Jenner's use of lip injections, which she admitted to back in 2015 when she was only 17 years old. For lip injections to work and for the look to stay consistent, the client needs to get a hyaluronic acid (usually a product like Juvederm, which Jenner uses) injected into the desired area every four to six months. That means that Jenner would need to get fillers at least once, if not twice, throughout her 9-month pregnancy to maintain her pout, something Moritz cautions against. "Any injections in pregnancy can go bad due to the body's decreased immune system," he said.
In other words, when your body is working to take care of the other little body growing inside of you, it can't also rush to heal that needle puncture.
