#TBT Mixtape: The Music That Shaped Lecrae

Christian Lantry

Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard's new series that showcases artists' very own throwback-themed playlists exclusive to Billboard's Spotify account. The curated set features the artists' favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.

This week's spin comes from Lecrae. The Grammy Award-winning rapper is set to release his Columbia Records debut album All Things Work Together next month (Sept. 22).

A balance of introspection and social critique, the set -- his eighth to date but first via the major label -- finds the expert emcee translating his message of hope into a soundtrack of healing-through-pain, assisted by collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign ("Blessings"), Tori Kelly ("I'll Find You), and producer Metro Boomin' ("Hammer Time" featuring 1K Phew).

“It’s a journey through chaos and hope and brokenness and blessing,” says Lecrae. “When you’re in the middle of the chaos, you can come to realize that it is shaping you, creating endurance. It’s knowing that the struggle can bring about a richness in character beyond all wealth.  Part of the DNA of this album is the realization that all things do work together to make you into the person that you need to be.”

Today, Lecrae is looking back with this week's #TBT Mixtape, inspired by "the music that helped shape who I am."

Give it a spin below and also check out some throwback snaps of the star from his youth.
