Selena Gomez Talks Mental Health, Being on Bed Rest & Her New Favorite Movie
Selena Gomez canceled part of her Revival Tour last year due to health reasons, but now she’s back and ready to open up about what she went through in the most unexpected way.
Over the weekend, Gomez moderated a Q&A with director Josh Safdie and producer Sebastian Bear-McClard, the masterminds behind Robert Pattinson’s new crime film Good Time. During the talk, the singer went into detail about how she ended up developing a friendship with the behind-the-scenes duo of the movie as a result of how much she watched their 2014 drama Heaven Knows Best while on her way to recovery.
“A little while ago I was actually on bed rest, and it’s probably the worst time to watch Heaven Knows What or the best time, depending on your mental state,” she reportedly said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “I ended up becoming extremely fascinated with the boys and kind of forced them to become my friend a little bit.”
The movie that got Gomez hooked was about a homeless girl in New York City, who finds herself in a destructive relationship and attempts to commit suicide. “For me, personally, I really liked the mental aspect of it, because I’ve done a lot of those exercises that you put in it,” she explained to the audience. “So, the beginning of the movie stuck with me because I actually… I’m very open, it’s not really a secret, but I, for sure, have talked about that, and I’ve done a lot of those exercises.”
Just this month, Gomez opened up about going to therapy. "I go to therapy. I believe in that and talking about where you are,” she told InStyle. “But I’m in a really, really healthy place."
Being open and honest, especially with yourself, can be so freeing and it’s incredible to see how much progress she’s made.
