#TBT Mixtape: Vampire Weekend's Chris Baio Shares His 'Late-Summer, Long Nights' Playlist

Dan Wilton

Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard's new series that showcases artists' very own throwback-themed playlists exclusive to Billboard's Spotify account. The curated set features the artists' favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.

Baio -- a.k.a. Chris Baio of Vampire Weekend -- just dropped his latest solo LP Man Of The World earlier this summer via Glassnote Records. The sophomore set was written and recorded in Brixton, U.K., and was co-produced by John Foyle and mixed by Bruce Lampcov (Bryan Ferry, The The).

During the album roll-out, Baio also co-directed a striking visual for the title track alongside Scott Peters, with the clip inspired by his many travels on tour throughout his tenure in the indie rock outfit. "Using cutting-edge technology, we were able to make a video that features places I've been -- Lake Malawi, Rio, London -- and others I have not -- Patagonia, Niagara Falls," Baio says. "I'm particularly proud of the scene where I moonwalk on stage at Carnegie Hall."

Today (Aug. 9), ahead of his upcoming U.S. tour in support of The Shins, Baio is looking back, with this week's #TBT Mixtape, exclusively via Billboard.

Featuring a diverse mix of artists including INXS, TLC, T. Rex, and The O'Jays, the set represents "the end of summer" and some of Baio's "favourite summer-y throwback jams," he tells Billboard. "Enjoy the long nights while they're here!"
