FOREVER 21 Launches #WEARFOREVER with special performance by Khalid on July 17, 2017.

At only 19 years old, breakout singer Khalid has re-imagined the world of R&B with his unique, effortless sound. His hit single “Location” has over 84 million plays on YouTube alone, proving the mark he’s already made on the genre. With a following that loyal, we don’t doubt this is only the beginning.

To get closer to fans, Khalid is currently on a 25-date North American tour, which kicked off last week (July 12) in Portland at the Roseland Theater. And earlier this week, he launched a new global campaign with fast-fashion mega giant Forever 21--one that was orchestrated by MAC Presents and Courtney Stewart and Cara Lewis from Khalid's team--featuring him as the face of the retailer’s #F21XMUSIC summer and #WEARFOREVER initiative. Billboard Style caught up with the rapper at his pop up, getting a deeper understanding of his new Forever 21 partnership and what we can expect from the budding singer next.

How would you describe your personal style and does it influence your music or vice versa?

My music and my style are very alternate. I tend to dress in brighter colors because that is the after effect of how I express myself through my music. Even though my music is sad, at the end it’s very uplifting and I feel that the final product of that is the way that I dress — very bright colors.

What was the best part about being in this campaign and working with Forever 21?

It’s been very awesome. My favorite part was seeing myself on an advertisement in Times Square. It was cool for my fans to see that even though I’m 19, fresh out of high school, I’m a kid out there just chasing his dreams. And I’m glad that through this campaign I was able to inspire others.

What's your favorite piece from the collection?

It has to be the camo jacket and the MTV shirts. I love the MTV shirts a lot. I wear them all the time.

If you could pick the proudest moment of your career so far, what would it be?

My proudest moment is going Gold on a debut album and I hope it will go Platinum within a year.

Do you have anything special planned for your set on tour?

I’m bringing a car with me everywhere I go. If it fits on stage, that would be super awesome. The car is super dope.

If you could make your dream collaboration happen next, who would it be with and why?

Definitely SZA. Hopefully, it’s in the works sometime soon — she’s awesome.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

I like to take a nap.
