"This is a list of modern classics.”

Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard's new series that showcases artists' very own throwback-themed playlists exclusive to Billboard's Spotify account. The curated set features the artists' favorite tracks from their youth and childhood. This week's subject is Columbia Records rapper/singer-songwriter DeJ Loaf.

Following the release of her highly anticipated new single "No Fear," the first off her forthcoming debut LP Liberated (out later this year), DeJ Loaf shared the official video for the track. Written and directed by rubberband, the clip showcases the Detroit native clad in a Gucci pantsuit, daydreaming in her bedroom before being whisked off to a electrifying dreamscape, complete with animated dream sequences.

The first official single since 2016's All Jokes Aside, the triumphant track marks the next step in the 26-year-old's quick ascent. A former janitor in her hometown of Detroit, she first caught hype with single "Try Me" in 2014, which inked her a deal with Columbia Records, a MAC Cosmetics campaign, and a support slot on Nicki Minaj's Pinkprint Tour.

Today, DeJ is looking back, as she waxes nostalgic on this week's throwback playlist, exclusively via Billboard.

"This is a list of many of my favorite songs from childhood with a focus on hip hop and RnB. I grew up in Detroit which is a famous music city, and I loved listening to the radio and was inspired by many of these artists," she tells Billboard. "I included a lot of women recording artists, because that's important to me. They paved the way for women like me to get to do what we do today. This is a list of modern classics.”
