We’re just days away from Harry Styles’ big-screen debut in his new movie Dunkirk, which officially hits theaters July 20. Now that everything is finally coming together, the former One Direction star decided to sit down and reminisce about his time on set.

Styles joined the cast back in March 2016, and he went through a whole lot to fulfill his role as Alex in the war film inspired by the World War II battle. Though director Christopher Nolan instantly recognized Styles' talent, the singer still had to make changes for his character, one of which fans can’t forget: cutting his hair (see frantic comments on the Instagram photo from May 2016 below). Of course, he was game and didn’t put up much of a fight. Hey, it’s all part of the job, right?

“I didn’t think too much about it,” Styles recently told E! News. “I assumed when auditioning for a [movie] based in World War II I’d probably have to have a trim.”

At the end of the day, hair grows back and, thankfully, since then, Styles’ locks came back better than ever. “It was a little breezy behind the ears, which was nice,” he added.

The Sun also reported that Styles and his co-stars had to live on a boat to prepare for their parts. Between his hair and living situation, that’s true commitment and we can hardly wait to see how it all translates onscreen.

Whoops. #Littleprincesstrust
