CFDA Brand Ambassador for 2017 Men's Fashion Week is Young Paris: Exclusive
Young Paris, the Congolese, Paris-born and New York-raised musician whose multicultural influences shine through in both his Afro-Centric music and style, was just announced as the 2017 New York Men's Fashion Weeks Brand Ambassador, starting in NYC on July 10.
Aside from his work as an artistic director, music producer, and songwriter, Paris has continued to impress the fashion world with his fusion of traditional Afro-culture and high fashion. "Growing up my mother taught me how to sew, so when we had our plays I would sew outfits for her and stuff like that, which resulted in me being able to add my own flare to my style," Paris told Billboard. Paris’ wardrobe is now one that combines high-end urban pieces and luxury brands in bold patterns that he can stand out in. " I can go from street style to a tailored suit, I really try to mix it up."
After his father passed, Paris continues to honor his fathers legacy by representing his culture, “A lot of times I wear my Maquillage, my [face] paint, which is another just way of carrying on what he left us, which stems from the regions that represented the Congo,” he said. “We wear white for those who we lost, and recognizing that I’m a contemporary African-American, I blend the traditional and the contemporary together, whether it's art, music or fashion."
Paris brings his wardrobe together with standout jewelry pieces like gold accessories because “I like that they standout against my skin color,” he said.
The rapper has been busy making a name for himself in both fashion and music with the release of his new EP, Afrobeats, as well as signing to NEXT Models Talent Board this past January.
