Rihanna Will Debut a New Jewelry Collection with Chopard at Cannes
The singer expands her role as designer with a series of glamorous pieces with the Swiss jeweler
Fresh off of showing her latest Fenty x Puma collection at Paris Fashion Week last month, Rihanna is adding the role of haute jewelry designer to her ever-growing fashion resume, as Swiss jewelry and watch brand Chopard announced today that they will debut the Rihanna Loves Chopard collection at the Cannes Film Festival in May. "I have always been in love with Chopard’s exquisite jewelry, so to actually design collections with them is something I still can't believe,” says Rihanna in the brand's release. “It was a really incredible process and I learned so much! I can't wait for everyone to see it.” The singer has worn many pieces by the brand over the years, including a diamond cuff to accept her first Grammy in 2008.
As it turns out, the singer has already been quietly sporting some of the pieces from the collection: At this year's Grammy Awards, she wore a one-of-a-kind pair of floral inspired multi-colored chandelier earrings and marquise-cut diamond solitaire ring. The collection is partially inspired by her home country of Barbados, from the Caribbean beaches and gardens to the vibrant colors of its Carnival (an event that Ri-Ri famously loves and attends each year).
There are also a few minimal, modern and geometric pieces in the collection that use colored ceramic in rose gold cubes, done in "Jungle Green," a color that the singer hand selected. "Rihanna and I collaborated closely on the collections so you can feel her unstoppable energy, strong creativity, and inherent sense of design in every piece,” says Chopard's co-president and creative director Caroline Scheufele. “With her unique style, she redefines the way people see and wear jewelry.” The nine-piece collection, which starts at $1,460, will be available in June, but Chopard is already taking pre-orders online and at their boutiques starting today.
Chopard has been a driving force of the Cannes red carpet—and one of the event's official sponsors—for 20 years, and the collaboration will be a part of the brand's anniversary celebration (the film festival is also celebrating its 70th year, so its already notorious party scene is sure to be extra buzzy this year). The singer is likely to make and appearance there next month and if she does, she's sure to have first dibs on the best jewels.
