Rick Ross, Usher, Questlove and Other Sneakerheads Hit These Stores for Their Kicks
An outfit's most important accessory is the shoes, and for artists ranging from rap to country, the same still applies, especially when you're dealing with sneakers. When it comes to kicks, many celebs forgo the comfort and privacy of their homes for a public (or, semi-private) shopping experience at some of the best sneaker stores in the U.S.
Anthony “Munch” Steele, Field Marketing Manager at Philadelphia's Villa knows all about that, as elite rhymers flock to his spot to get fresh all the time. “It helps support the brand and what we stand for as an organization,” Munch says of why it’s great to have the likes of Dave East and Kevin Hart step into Villa. “Everyone is an influencer, and when their following sees them shopping with us, it then becomes cool for them to shop with us as well.”
Below is a list of the top sneakers shops all over the country that artists from Questlove to Usher shop in. Stop by when you're in town.
Kith, New York
Ronnie Fieg’s shop, where the designer sells both creative collabs with the likes of Asics or Puma and highly sought sneaks like Air Jordans and Yeezys, is a go-to for Usher and rapper Fabulous. With shops in both NYC and Brooklyn and a highly covetable in-house brand, it's arguably the hottest spot out there at the moment.
Flight Club, NYC/LA
The Roots’ star drummer Questlove is quoted in GQ saying that iconic resell sneaker shop Flight Club is the place to go: “If you want to find those sneakers you’ve been eBay-fishing for the last few months, you’re 99% guaranteed to find them here.” At their shops on both coasts, you’re likely to find pristine classics and rarities alongside fresh releases.
RSVP Gallery, Chicago
Run by Kanye West’s longtime (and hometown) buddy Don C, the high-end streetwear shop has artists like Travis Scott frequenting it. Founded in 2009, finding a pair of Adidas’ collaboration with designer Raf Simons or Brand Jordan’s KAWS IVs to go with your Off White shirt and Fear of God jeans will be an easy score.
Nashville country star Thomas Rhett shops at Rooted, the city’s new hub for cowboy boot-fanatics-turned-sneaker-heads. Expect to find kicks like simple slip-on Vans and retro Shaquille O’Neal Reeboks.
Shoe Gallery Boutique, Miami
South Beach’s acclaimed shop counts Pitbull, Jay Electronica and Rick Ross as regulars. Trying to find the new Riccardo Tisci Air Max 97s? They’re there, not far off from pastel Adidas and vintage Puma silhouettes.
