The Sneakers That Future, Gucci Mane and More Will Be Wearing This Spring

For women's kicks, look to Beyoncé-beloved fashion house Gucci. Benyamin says it’s all about the Gucci leather low-top platform sneakers this season. “They’re worn by so many celebrities already that they're almost sold out. They’re so different and colorful but they mesh very well with any outfit." 

As for the other Gucci? Atlanta-based stylist Shun Melson, who works with Gucci Mane, calls the Balenciaga Speed Trainer Bootie the “men's must-have” this spring. “It's fly, comfy and unique. Gucci Mane loves them not only because it's not your ordinary sneaker, but they're great for travel and for an everyday on-the-go sneaker.” 

Shun zeroes in on the new Fenty Puma Classic Lace-Up Sneaker Mule for women. Crafted by Rihanna, this pink sneaker can be dressed up or down, which makes it one of Shun’s top picks for her list of female clients this spring. “It has a skinny heel with a pointed toe, but it is sexy and chic,” she says. 

“In ready-to-wear fashion there is a normcore trend in sneakers too," according to Peju Famojure, stylist to one of the most fashionable women in music today, Solange. On that tip, her sneaker of choice for men is the New Balance “998.”

For women, Peju picked the “Adidas Gazelle with the gum sole,” a shoe that is actually a men’s silhouette (meaning they only come in men’s sizes, though they can be worn by women as well). Peju notes the prevalence of designers upping their sneaker game on the recent runways as having an impact on the footwear choices of music stars, and vice versa. “People are returning to the classics. It's totally about street to runway these days.”

There's an alternative to this unisex sneaker, however, for those who prefer an Adidas sneaker designed specifically for women. The Adidas Consortium Women's “Deep Hue” Samba limited edition sneaker was released on March 8^th for International Women’s Day, and comes in a variety of different color ways.
