Donald Glover, the writer-actor-rapper also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, is a creative powerhouse whose distinct tastes and personality quirks pervade his every achievement. His third studio album, Awaken, My Love!, and his critically acclaimed FX series Atlanta were 2016 projects that further explored deeper dimensions of his artistry: namely funk and the complexities of black American life. And though his Atlanta character Earn opts for a more ordinary and sometimes unkempt look, Glover is revered by fans for his fresh style; there’s even a subreddit dedicated to his sartorial prowess.

With a forthcoming role in Star Wars and a Golden Globe nomination for best performance by a comedy actor this weekend, it seems the momentum from last year is definitely carrying into 2017. And with that comes more comfortable-yet-chic looks that have become a Glover trademark. Below, check out five of his most stylish moments thus far.

iHeartRadio Daytime Village Festival — Sept. 20, 2014

Glover, as Childish Gambino, performed onstage in an opened tropical short-sleeve button-down, making reference to the cover of his second studio album Because the Internet and the exotic island vacation visuals of the project’s single “Telegraph Ave (‘Oakland’ By Lloyd).” This almost lackadaisical fashion statement was a distinct Gambino look for this time in his career.

Childish Gambino showed up at Roc Nation's annual pre-Grammy brunch dressed down in black jeans, a white tee, Oliver Peoples' Daddy B shades and an AMI brown shearling wool-collar bomber jacket.

Magic Mike XXL Premiere —  June 25, 2015

At the L.A. premiere of Magic Mike XXL, the Golden Globe nominee wore a faded navy plaid suit jacket and vest over a fresh white button-down that peeped out of the jacket’s sleeves, giving his outfit an edgier feel.

2015 GQ Man of the Year Party — Dec. 3, 2015

For the night of photos and cocktails, Glover ditched the tie for a tawny brown turtleneck, pairing the more casual sweater with a rich blue suit and some serious scruff.

Variety and Women in Film’s Pre-Emmy Party — Sept. 16, 2016

Glover matched a navy plaid, double-breasted linen suit with a white pinstriped shirt for a relaxed and refreshing red-carpet look.
