Over the past five years, celebrity menswear has gone from three-piece suits and extravagant accessories to artists rocking ripped jeans and tees to events, occasionally even foregoing a shirt completely. So, it’s no surprise that the up-and-coming generation of male musicians, from D.R.A.M. to Charlie Puth, are working with stylists who encourage a more back-to-the-basics approach to fashion. Here are four of the stylists behind the best dressed up-and-coming male musicians.

Fatima B

Who She Styles: D.R.A.M.

New York-based Fatima B is a celebrity stylist who started out as an intern to Brandon Atherley, Missy Elliot’s stylist at the time. Fatima has since dressed some of hip-hop’s biggest names: Nicki Minaj, The Weeknd, and Tyga to name a few.

As the current stylist for 28-year-old rapper D.R.A.M., Fatima works with his carefree charm and affinity for eccentric accessories to cultivate an authentic aesthetic. “His personality gave me a happy Ol' Dirty Bastard (ODB) kind of vibe, which was one of my inspirations,” Fatima tells Billboard.

His signature dreads, dad hats, bandanas and colorful ensembles express his easygoing and uplifting disposition. At the 2016 BET Awards, the Virginia-based artist performed his feel-good smash “Broccoli,” featuring Lil Yachty in a burgundy robe.

Tiffany Briseno

Who She Styles: Shawn Mendes

Toronto native Tiffany Briseno has styled Camilla Cabello from Fifth Harmony, and is now working with vine-star-turned-Billboard-200-topper Shawn Mendes. Briseno and 18-year-old Mendes stick to his “boy next door” aesthetic, keeping it simple and clean with neutral-colored tee shirts, dark skinny jeans, and button-downs.

“He wears plaid shirts that are open. When you wear stuff like that it's kind of inviting,” explains Jamal Jackson, the New York-based content creator and stylist behind Style Society Guy. “That's some kind of country, laid back vibe.”

The “Stitches” singer’s red carpet look for the 2016 MTV EMAs – an all-black outfit including details like a textured collar and zipper-studded jacket – illustrates his relatable-yet-refined fashion sense.

Stephanie Singer

Who She Styles: Desiigner

For his New York-based stylist Stephanie Singer, the Desiigner highlight of the year was being named Vogue’s best-dressed man at the VMAs. “He was on every best dressed list, including women's lists as the only man,” Singer explains to Billboard. “No one knew what he looked like before this moment.”

Desiigner, the 19-year-old rapper behind the No. 1 hit “Panda,” wore a pale pink Maison Margiela suit, yellow accented loafers, and no shirt whatsoever. His simultaneously high-energy and sophisticated style, which incorporates patterned pieces like a Gucci Tropical Print nylon jacket into more minimalist looks, seems like the beginnings of a fashion icon.

Michael Comrie

Who He Styles: Charlie Puth

Michael Comrie, an L.A. based stylist who has styled Young the Giant and Ty Dolla $ign, collaborates with 24-year-old singer songwriter Charlie Puth on outfits for performances, red carpets, and shoots. Keeping true to Puth’s earnest and artistic aesthetic, the two play with vintage tee shirts and tuxedos – think his Golden Globes 2016 red carpet black ensemble with oversized bowtie – for a very classic menswear look.
