Rising indie singer-songwriter Eito scored his first No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 with "Kousui," the TikTok-generated hit that debuted on the tally just four weeks ago.

On the chart dated May 11 to 17, the poignant acoustic ballad led streaming for the second week in a row with 6,998,978 streams (up from 6,137,861 last week), climbed in video views (at No. 5 with 5,755,840 views, up from 4,273,162), and is also rapidly gaining airplay on radio.

The 22-year-old J-pop newcomer was in close competition this week with a song that has also exhibited some impressive chart action since its debut nine weeks ago: YOASOBI's "Yoru ni kakeru." Rising 5-2 this week on the Japan Hot 100, this track is also the biggest hit for the duo that creates music and videos based on original stories.

"Yoru ni kakeru" has consistently accumulated points through video views and streaming since its release last November. This week, the song nearly doubled in downloads (from 5,279 to 9,129 units), indicating that the group is steadily expanding its fanbase. Meanwhile, YOASOBI's new single "Harujion" debuted at No. 10 after dropping May 11, and these two songs will likely boost each other's performance in the coming weeks.

GReeeeN's "Hoshikage no Yell" -- the theme song of the ongoing NHK morning drama series Yell -- ruled downloads this week, holding superstar idol group Arashi at bay with their English-language remake of their 2007 hit "Love so sweet: Reborn."

Last week's No. 1 for downloads, Hikaru Utada's "Time," drops to No. 3 for the metric, but rose 5-1 for radio this week and to No. 18 for streaming, and is expected to stay in the top ranks for a while.

The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, radio airplay, Twitter mentions, YouTube and GYAO! video views, Gracenote look-ups, audio streams from Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, AWA, Google Play Music, KKBOX, LINE MUSIC, Rakuten Music, RecMusic provided by Gfk Japan, dHits, Uta Pass and Spotify, plus karaoke data from Daiichikosho and XING (excluded until further notice).
