BTS Release Dramatic Second Music Video For ‘ON’: Watch

Just a few days after the release of the dance-oriented “Kinetic Minfesto Film” for their single “ON,” from their new album Map of the Soul: 7, BTS has premiered a second music video for the song today (Feb. 27).

Depicting a cinematic storyline, the new film for “ON” sees the members leading the way past walls and climbing to new heights following a series of vibrant, fantastical scenes.

Though the music video features some choreography that echoes what was presented in the prior release, the new variant of “ON” focuses more on a series of symbolic moments, alluding to breaking free from the ways of the past.

There are apparent allusions to Noah’s Ark, Jesus’ crown of thorns, birds soaring free from cages, The Lion King, The Maze Runner, Lord of the Flies and other important historic and literary storytelling devices, positioning each of BTS’ seven members in distinct roles throughout the music video.

Finally, the septet ascends to a mountain peak. The phrase “No More Dream” then turns into “Dream,” an allusion to BTS’ 2013 debut single “No More Dream.”

According to a press release from BTS’ company Big Hit Entertainment released prior to the music video, the second version of “ON” serves as “A symbolic representation of ‘ON’ to highlight a different charm of the multifaceted band.”

The first version of “ON” was viewed 46.5 million times in its first 24 hours of being uploaded to YouTube, the video streaming platform report, making it the fifth biggest music debut in YouTube’s history. It is one of three BTS music videos, along with “Boy with Luv” (No. 1) and “IDOL” (No. 6) to rank as the site’s top 10 biggest 24 hour music debuts.
