The 2019 M2 X Genie Music Awards (MGMAs) took place in South Korea on Thursday (Aug. 1), and the night recognized some of the biggest names in the industry as top artists of the year.
Genie Music is one of the largest streaming services in South Korea, and the awards show is based around digital elements. Artists were recognized for their performance between July 1, 2018, and June 19, 2019, based on chart data from Genie Music, view counts of music videos and social media buzz, including fan voting specifically for the MGMAs.
The night’s top awards were spread between BTS, TWICE and soloist Paul Kim. Kim took home the top music award for his song "Me After You," while BTS won the M2 top video and top artist awards, and TWICE was recognized as the best-selling artist.
