THE YELLOW MONKEY

Japanese rockers THE YELLOW MONKEY released their new single, "Tentomushi" ("Ladybug," in English) digitally Friday (Nov. 9), along with the accompanying music video.

The latest track by the veteran band is the theme song of an ongoing TV drama series about a brilliant mahjong player, and the neon-saturated visuals for the gritty rock number features the complex game as its motif.

Shot in a market in Taiwan, the band performs the song surrounded by tables of heavily tattooed men engrossed in mahjong.

As the song builds momentum, frontman Kazuya Yoshii is suddenly caught in the middle of a touch-and-go situation as the gangsters, played by local actors, grow agitated and start provoking each other.

Yoshii notes that the song is the shortest he'd written in awhile. It's a compact, tight rock number featuring the band's unyielding musicianship, and is a good indication of what's in store for fans in the future.
