Wake Up Call, the first onsite W Hotel music festival, took place in W Hotels around the world this year, including Hollywood, Barcelona and Bali. Swedish singer and songwriter Tove Lo sat down with Billboard Radio China at W Bali to discuss her new singles with Charli XCX and Phoebe Ryan and her future plans.

At W Hotels Hollywood, she surprised her friend Charli XCX by dancing in front of the stage. Tove Lo explained that they met through mutual contacts in the industry, and they became good friends over time and are very supportive of each other's careers. They have collaborated on quite a few songs, including Lo's new single, "bitches."

"Bitches" was first released without features, but Tove later decided the song's "fun, cheeky, female empowerment message" would be conveyed stronger with female artists she knows, respects and loves. Charli XCX, Icona Pop, Elliphant and ALMA joined the remix and got into their characters in the video, in which they act as BDSM coaches for a couple who is looking to spice up their relationship.

"It's all done with a bit of humor," Tove Lo explained, laughing. "The idea of it was mine, and I worked on it with a director, Lucia Aniello. We developed it together, and all the girls were really down and brought their vibe to it."

Tove Lo has more great collaborations, being featured on Phoebe Ryan's "Heart Attack." The song was written spontaneously at the writing camp in Nicaragua and recorded at 2 in the morning. "It's really fun to work with your friends," she explained. "It releases a lot of the usual politics around stuff."

Talking about her first time in China, Tove shared that she had an amazing experience in Shanghai earlier this year. Despite her nervousness performing in a new place, seeing fans in Tove Lo T-shirts who knew all the lyrics to her songs, "really felt like that they've been waiting for me for a long time," she said.

On Friday (Oct. 19), Tove Lo will release her film, Blue Lips, named for her 14-track album, which dropped last November. Besides the film, "I am already working on my new music now," she added.
