X JAPAN and <a href="/music/LArc-en-Ciel">L'Arc-en-Ciel</a>'s HYDE are collaborating on a new single, "Red Swan," to be featured as the opener for the third season of the popular animated series Attack on Titan.

"Red Swan feat. HYDE" will be X JAPAN's first new music since "La Venus (Acoustic Version)," included in the WE ARE X soundtrack album released 16 months ago. It's also the iconic band's first new single since "BORN TO BE FREE," released digitally in November 2015, and first new CD single since "THE LAST SONG," which was released over 20 years ago in March 1998.

The release of the new single was first announced at Anime Expo 2018 in Los Angeles, the largest Japanese pop culture convention in North America, and the news was received with massive cheers from the comic-con crowd.

Japanese voice actor Yuuki Kaji, who plays the protagonist Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan, attended the L.A. convention and seemed thrilled about the collaboration. "They're superstars -- not only in Japan, but also around the world," he said. "Being involved with them through my work in the series feels like a dream."

The collab theme song by the visual kei giants will be released globally on digital platforms, and a CD single will be released this fall from Japan's Pony Canyon label.
