Filipina indie folk-pop singer and cellist Coeli has dropped her debut single -- "Magkaibigan o Magka-Ibigan," which roughly translates to "Friends or Lovers" -- on Spotify.
Initially released on YouTube as a duet with Ben&Ben's Miguel Guico and starring kalimba artist Bea Lorenzo, Coeli unveiled the new version of the track Friday (Nov. 3) to align it with the other songs on her upcoming EP, Here Today.

"The first release on YouTube was a duet performed by Miguel Guico of Ben&Ben and yours truly. Initially people know the song because of the music video we produced together, directed by Noah Del Rosario," Coeli tells Billboard Philippines exclusively.

"I honestly did not expect the outcome of the release. It was actually possible for me to already put the song on Spotify back then. But unfortunately, I was tied up with personal issues which caused me to stop everything and step back from the scene."

Since the early release of "Magkaibigan o Magka-Ibigan," Coeli has signed with Stages Talents and rebooted herself, along with her music, to finally produce her EP.

"What made the process long was me constantly trying to find the right people who are aligned with my vision. My music is my child, and I want the best for my first born. I'm so blessed to have my guitarist, Andrew De Pano and my producer, JP Verona."
Coeli explains the inspiration behind the song: "It's the fear of love and commitment. I noticed a lot of my friends as well as myself are afraid to dive in completely in relationships. The song expresses the frustration of being caught in the middle of everything."
