As EDM lovers celebrated at the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), this year's festival meant a little more for Chinese fans. During the ADE annual award ceremony, it was announced that a Chinese DJ, 21-year-old DJ Carta, ranked No. 92 in DJ Mag's Top 100. This is the first time a Chinese DJ has made the list.

From performances at ADE, Jungle, Storm, Tomorrowland and Ultra, DJ Carta sat down with Billboard Radio China to share his amazing journey.

Originally born in Hong Kong then growing up in Shanghai, DJ Carta was heavily influenced by Swedish House Mafia. At 14, he laid hands on his first deck; at 16, he left for the U.K. to improve his craft; when he just turned 18, he pushed himself into a signing with Spinnin Records' -- of which he said: "Nobody cares more about your career than you do. If I don't push for it, people around can't help me even if they want to."

DJ Carta is also witnessing first hand China's positioning as the next big EDM scene. "The time is right now," he shared. "Back in 2012, only four or five DJs come to Shanghai to play; now, we have 20 to 30 big festivals on the line, and five DJs in one city every weekend. It's crazy!"

Talking about his music and upcoming plans, DJ Carta has just released his new EP, Bring it Back, and is working on several projects, including a new pop record that will come out this November.
