Takeover Tuesday: Hanson Celebrates 'Christmas For the Ages' With a Holiday Playlist

Jiro Schneider

Welcome back to Takeover Tuesday, where each week Billboard taps chart-topping artists and taste-makers to compile their very own playlist exclusive to Billboard's Spotify account. We give the artists free reign to base the list on whatever subject they choose. The only rule? Make it as creative and unique to them as possible.

Though Christmas is still two weeks away, Hanson has been getting their fans in the holiday spirit since late October. The trio of brothers -- who celebrated their 25th anniversary as a group this year -- released their second Christmas album on Oct. 27, Finally It's Christmas, even playing a handful of holiday shows after concluding their Middle of Everywhere Tour just as they released the record.

Hanson has a mix of classic and original holiday tunes on their latest Christmas album as well as 1997's Snowed In, but whether they wrote it or not, the guys were inspired by some of the most quintessential Christmas artists, from Bing Crosby to Mariah Carey. And in the spirit of Christmas, they wanted to share those influences in a playlist they titled "Christmas For The Ages."

"One thing that makes Christmas music standalone is it's unique ability to be simultaneously timeless and deeply nostalgic," Hanson tells Billboard. "This year we released our Christmas album, Finally It’s Christmas, which was a follow up to our first Christmas release 20 years ago, Snowed In. This list will be some of the original recordings that most inspired our song selections for both of our Christmas records, along with a few extras we are yet to venture to cover ourselves. We can only hope that one day a few of our own renditions earn their place among these iconic records and artists."

As the Christmas countdown approaches single digits, Hanson have wrapped their tour but are continuing to spread the holiday cheer with performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live (Dec. 7), The Late Late Show With James Corden (Dec. 11) and an appearance on Dr. Phil (Dec. 14). On top of that, Taylor, Zac and Isaac have a special Finally It's Christmas Live Stream on their YouTube channel on Dec. 15.

Grab your hot cocoa and gear up for all of the Hanson holiday fun by taking a listen to their festive playlist below.
