A$AP Rocky spoke with Billboard’s Tetris Kelly on the red carpet at Clive Davis' Pre-Grammy Gala on Saturday (Feb. 9), chatting about fashion, hip-hop representation at this year’s Grammys and what he wants his legacy as an artist to be.
Asked how he decides what to wear for big events such as the Clive Davis party, A$AP tells Billboard that he sees fashion as a statement. “It has to reflect on how you feel that day,” he shares. “If you feel gloomy and sad, you might wear something rugged. If you feel nice and there's a lot of sunshine in your life, you might wear this [light pink suit].”
The rapper was also asked to weigh in on the representation of hip-hop at this year’s Grammys, to which he responds that he has mixed feelings. “I’m glad that hip-hop is actually getting the credit it deserves and a lot of the hip-hop artists are being nominated for a lot of awards because hip-hop has now transcended and grown bigger than pop and now we are the pop genre. We’re bigger than that. We sell more records and everything. We're more popular.”
