Bebe Rexha Reacts to Her 2 Grammy Nominations: 'For Me, This Is Everything'
The 'Meant to Be Singer' is up for best new artist and best country duo/group performance
Bebe Rexha was just nominated for two Grammys, but the pop star jokes she’s already been partying since yesterday. “I was really nervous about today, so I went out last night,” she tells Billboard with a laugh. “I celebrated too much last night!”
In the end, she had no reason to be nervous, picking a pair of nods, including one for best new artist. “I was crying and jumping and laughing,” she says. “It’s unreal. It’s just so cool.” She also was nominated for best country duo/group performance for her hit Florida Georgia Line collaboration, "Meant to Be."
“I think that a Grammy nomination is a Grammy nomination,” the singer says. “But country? I never thought that [I’d be nominated in the genre]. That’s life. You think you know where everything’s going to go with your life, but you have no idea. ‘Meant to Be’ has brought me so many blessings and so many incredible opportunities. It’s changed my life for sure.”
Today, the New York City native plans to toast her success with her family, who were with her when she learned of her nominations. “My parents are crying right now, I can’t focus!” Rexha says. “Today I’m just going to hang out with my family. I flew my 16-year-old cousins out to come watch me perform at Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden because it’s been a dream of mine to perform there. I’m going to spend the day with them and my family. I’m so happy to be in New York while this is happening. It’s the best feeling.”
Rexha, whose debut album, Expectations, arrived in June, says the nominations are a “testament to going hard and never giving up.”
“I always dreamed of this moment because it’s something that would validate me,” she says. “I always wanted to make myself feel like I truly made it. For me, this is everything. This year has been such a whirlwind. It’s one of the best years of my life.”
And she’s still working: Yesterday, Rexha tweeted that she turned in her next single and is thinking about new music videos. “There’s a lot of stuff happening,” she says. “It’s just a dream come true."
