Grammy Preview: Music Experts Weigh in on Best Pop Album -- Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars & More
Looking ahead to music's biggest night, Billboard's Kevan Kenney and Taylor Weatherby, Vibe's Shenequa Golding and veteran music journalist John Norris discuss who could grab a Best Pop Album nomination at the 2018 Grammys.
Ed Sheeran's return with Divide seems definitely slated for Grammy gold. "The Grammys love Ed Sheeran," Norris points out. Golding mentions that "Shape of You" was premiered at last year's ceremony, so a win in 2018 could take things full circle for Sheeran.
Bruno Mars, who bounces between pop and R&B, could be placed in the pop category this time around with 24K Magic. Golding mentions that Mars "flirts" between the two genres, and when he does lean into pop, he does so "authentically."
Lady Gaga's Joanne is not a sure thing, but the crew agrees Gaga is another Recording Academy favorite. Other possibilities for the award include Lorde's Melodrama, Kesha's Rainbow and Demi Lovato's Tell Me You Love Me.
