Current Grammy Award nominees Andra Day and Jazmine Sullivan will headline the talent lineup at Essence magazine’s seventh annual Grammy Week celebration, Black Women in Music. The invitation-only fete will be held at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles on Thursday, Feb. 11.
Since its inception, Black Women in Music has saluted specific artists and industry executives, including Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Janelle Monae and Epic Records president Sylvia Rhone. The 2016 soiree comes with a different twist. In tandem with Essence’s “Black Girl Magic”-themed February issue -- featuring African-American women making inroads within social activism, arts, fashion, technology and other arenas -- the evening will herald this year’s field of Grammy-nominated black female artists.
