Vance Joy Learned How to Skateboard During His Time Off: Exclusive Video

Before he hit the stage at this year's Outside Lands on Saturday (Aug. 12), Vance Joy stopped by the Billboard lounge to talk about what he's been up to since the release of his 2014 debut album, Dream Your Life Away, and his opening slot on Taylor Swift's 1989 tour. One of those things was picking up some skateboarding tricks.

"I picked that hobby up about a year ago," the Aussie singer says. "I'm not very good but I do enjoy it. I get a sense of achievement when I land a trick."

Joy also discusses his latest single, "Lay It On Me," which started out as a guitar riff on his phone back in 2012. "Luckily, I was in Malibu with the right melodies, the right environment, the right lyrics and it all came together rather quickly," he explains. "You gotta put the bad and good together and hopefully something good will rise to the top."
